I have been honored to serve my fellow citizens, first by means of election to native government in my residence community and now as a Member of the Legislative Assembly and Minister liable for working with B.C.’s 189 native governments. Each day, I see first-hand the vital choices elected leaders in native governments make to construct profitable communities, urban and rural, throughout British Columbia.
Local government provides the discussion board for a community to create democratic aspirations and accomplish shared objectives. Local authorities build the infrastructure important to robust communities. Citizen engagement is the lifeblood of democracy. I encourage all B.C. There are many ways to participate in local democracy, whether or not as a voter, a candidate or marketing campaign volunteer.
Take your alternative, but do take part. Earlier this year, the federal government of British Columbia accepted the first important local elections reforms in 20 years. I was proud to introduce the legislation and have a good time Royal Assent for new guidelines to modernize the local election course of. Voters, candidates, elector organizations, third celebration sponsors, and people or organizations that have acted as campaign organizers need to grasp the brand-new guidelines.
